Woman Gets Curry House Logo Tattoo So Her Dad Can Have Free Meals For One Year

A mum-of-three went to extreme lengths to ensure her dad would enjoy free meals for a year at his favourite curry house - by getting a tattoo of their logo.

Beth Faulds, 30, got herself inked with the unique design after searching for gift ideas for dad Norman who has been a regular at the restaurant for almost 50 years.

After coming across a Facebook post, where the Shish Mahal in Glasgow promised free curries to anyone who got a tattoo of the restaurant, Beth immediately jumped at the idea.

The mum of three, from Glasgow, said: "My dad is notoriously difficult to buy gifts for and I had been thinking hard about what to get him.

"I normally get him your standard dad gifts -- like whisky, ties and socks -- and he'd place it down and forget about it. So, I wanted to get him something a bit more imaginative.

"I already had a couple of lilies on my hip to symbolise my mother and was struggling to think of an appropriate symbol for my dad.

"And that's when I remembered the Facebook post from the Shish Mahal that promised free curries to anyone who got a tattoo of the restaurant.

"So, it's taken pride of place alongside the lilies on my right hip as two symbols of my parents."

Beth works as a senior telemarketer at her dad Norman's marketing firm in Glasgow and gave up her rights to free curry to her dad.

Norman Ferguson, 66, said: "It's somewhere I've been going since I was a poor biology student at the University of Glasgow in 1967.

"I've seen that staff grow up and just can't believe how consistent they've been since opening.

"Now that I've got free reign to go whenever I want, I'll still go once a week with as much of the family as I can -- and whenever I happen to be in the area.

"I'm afraid that I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to my order and always go for a minced lamb Methi."

Shish Mahal is a Glaswegian institution and it's owners claim to have invented chicken tikka masala in the early 1970s.

The restaurant has also makes the curry of choice for many celebrities, with recent visits from actor Billy Boyd and comedian Kevin Bridges as well as a previous surprise visit from Hollywood star Morgan Freeman.

Owner Asif Ali said: "I was driving down Great Western Road towards the end of last year and spotted a tattoo parlour.

"I thought to myself 'I wonder who would be crazy enough to get one of those?'

"I wondered if anyone would get a tattoo of our restaurant.

"I posted it on our Facebook page, thinking that no one would take us up on it but am deeply honoured that they did it.

Asif added : "If someone else was to get a tattoo of the restaurant then we would consider given them free curry as well."
