Eva Mendes On Being A Mum

Eva Mendes welcomed Esmerelda Amada Gosling, her first child with actor Ryan Gosling, in September.

In her first interview since her pregnancy, the 40-year-old new mum talked sleepless nights, grandparents and her favourite at home beauty treatment in a conversation with her friend Cassandra Huysentruyt Grey, the founder of Violet Grey.

When asked if she has any help at home, Eva revealed she's "doing it without a nanny for now."

Although she's "constantly" worried about doing something wrong, Eva avoids turning to Goggle and is grateful to have Esmerelda's "nonnas" (the grandmas) nearby.

"Esmeralda has two amazing grandmothers and incredible aunties who come over and really help me," she added. "But as far as a nanny or a night nurse, for me that part of being a mother at this early stage is the struggle of not being able to sleep and not knowing what I'm doing and really going through it with her and battling out those nights."

As for pregnancy? Eva took the time to "relax and enjoy it" with her family while experimenting with homemade beauty treatments.

"When it comes to skincare I love using things I can find in my kitchen cabinet!" Eva said. "I use coconut oil as a moisturiser and I combine yogurt and sea salt to exfoliate. If I'm going out and looking tired and puffy (which happens a lot these days), I dip my face into a bucket of ice water. I once worked with a makeup artist who worked briefly with Lucille Ball. She told me that's what the actresses did back then."

Eva also confirmed she and Ryan knew they were having a girl. The Disney-esque name? Here's the explanation.

"We both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame and just think it's a beautiful name. Her middle name is Amada, which was my grandmother's name. It means 'beloved' in Spanish."
