Company Unveils Wire-Free 'Great Glass Elevator' Concept Using Magnets

This Elevator Has No Wires

Elevator company ThyssenKrupp has unveiled plans to build the world's first wire-free maglev elevator that'll allow it to move in any direction.

With elevators restricted in terms of height and movement the company is looking to the future of skyscrapers and structures by building a transport system that can move at high-speed and both horizontally and vertically.

ThyssenKrupp's response is something not dissimilar from Roald Dahl's 'great glass elevator' concept, an elevator that floats and moves independently.

These new elevators would move through the use of high-powered magnets, similar to the technology that's currently being employed on the next generation of high-speed trains.

The company plans to have its first working prototype by 2016 and will be built alongside ThyssenKrupp's impressive new test tower that's being built in Rottweil, Germany.
