Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine has given birth to a baby boy called Albert.

The actress - who plays Fiz Stape in the soap - took to Twitter on Monday (December 1) to share the happy news.

Albert is Jennie and partner Chris' first baby together.

The 30-year-old star wrote:

According to the Parentdish baby name finder, Albert means 'noble' and 'bright'.Jennie and Chris have been dating since 2005, and opened a restaurant together in 2012. Despite the long-term relationship, it seems marriage isn't on the cards any time soon.

Speaking last year, Jennie said: "I haven't got time. I don't like being the centre of attention so a big wedding isn't for me."

Jennie announced she was pregnant in May, telling her Twitter followers: "We have some news to share. Chris and I are expecting an addition to our family. Very happy x."

The arrival of baby Albert was greeted with a flurry of congratulations from Jennie's soap pals.

Kym Marsh Tweeted: "Ahhh darlin!!!! I'm so so happy for you!! Love to you all xx."

And former Corrie actress Natalie Gumede, who portrayed Kirsty Soames on the show, echoed: "What wonderful news, congratulations! Xx."

Emmerdale actor Chris Bisson, who previously played Dev Alahan's cousin Vikram Desai on the Street, tweeted: "Congratulations guys. Amazing news! Lots of love x."

In Corrie, Jennie's character Fiz gave birth to her daughter prematurely and later named her Hope.

She filmed the dramatic birth scenes in the show's live 50th anniversary and as a result she is thought to be the first actress to act out a live birth on a soap opera.

Congratulations Jennie and Chris!
