Family Left Father's Corpse In Bedroom For Six Months As They Prayed For His Resurrection

A woman has pleaded guilty to failing to notify police of the death of her husband.

Kaling Wald secretly kept the corpse of Peter, 52, in a sealed bedroom in their Hamilton, Ontario home, for six months in the belief he would be resurrected.

When neighbours asked where he was, Wald replied her husband was "in God’s hands”, the Hamilton Spectator reported.

“We were trusting God… we thought, ‘OK Lord, you know better’,” Wald said.

“That was how strong our faith was,” she added.

The father-of-six is understood to have died from complications caused by diabetes, for which he did not seek medical treatment.

His wife wrapped his decomposing body in blankets and padlocked the room while his family prayed for his return.

His remains were found in September by a foreclosure company while trying to evict the family for defaulting on their mortgage.

Assistant crown attorney Janet Booy said: “It’s an extremely sad case… she truly believed her husband was going to be resurrected from the dead, even after six months.”

Wald, 50, received a suspended sentence and was put on probation for 18 months. She was also ordered to seek counseling.
