A woman has been held by police investigating the death of a five-year-old boy.
While authorities have not confirmed details of the death, the boy had "a significant injury" and a member of the emergency services told The Scottish Daily Record the death would have been "sickening and horrific".
Police found the child at a house in Alva, Clackmannanshire, following a call about his welfare.
Emergency services went there at around 8.50am on Friday. Several streets in the surrounding area were cordoned off.
Police Scotland said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
'Ritual Murder' Death
Chief Inspector Stephen Sneddon said: "On arrival, police officers found the child with a significant injury to his body and he was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
"Inquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing and a woman is currently detained in connection with the investigation.
"I want to reassure the local community that there is no risk to them.
"This is a quiet area and I would emphasise that this is a very unusual incident which poses no risk to others."
Police said the woman detained is 32 years old and a report is being prepared for the procurator fiscal, the Scottish legal officer who authorises prosecutions.
Officers are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the boy's death.
