This Is What 170,000 Christmas Lights Looks Like When Captured By A Drone

170,000 Lights. One Drone. Merry Christmas.

Drones get the blame for an awful lot of bad stuff these days - but deep down we all know that drones don't fly into planes, people fly drones into planes.

Or they can fly them over amazing displays of Christmas lights and make everyone happy on the internet.

Drone pilot Daryl Watkins did just that to pay tribute to a Richmond, Virginia, resident who has lit up their home with 170,000 lights since 1999. It took 537 hours to put the lights up, apparently, but only a few minutes to record this video which turned the lights into a viral sensation.

Take a look at the result, above, and some of the other examples of amazing drone-based Xmas lights videography (deep breath) of 2014.
