Russell Brand And New Era Estate Score Amazing London Housing Victory

Russell Brand's Revolution Scores Its First Real Victory

Hundreds of residents facing eviction from their London estate have scored a massive victory after investors sold the development to an affordable housing charity.

The New Era estate group - backed by Russell Brand - were facing being made homeless before Christmas after a US investment firm bought the properties for redevelopment.

Westbrook Partners will now sell the estate to the Dolphin Square Charitable Foundation which says it is committed to providing housing to low and middle income families.

Russell Brand enthusiastically announced the news in an edition of his 'Trews'.

Lindsey, one of the leaders of the campaign group, said: "We feel bloody brilliant. It just shows you what people like us can do if we come together.

"We would never have thought this six months ago but we carried and and continued to fight and this is the outcome."

The group had previously taken their protest all the way to the steps of Downing Street and had won the support of Boris Johnson.

Residents had faced a tripling of rents from around £800 per month for a two-bedroom flat to £2,400.

They also faced being relocated miles from London - in one case all the way to Clacton-on-Sea.
