Nigel Farage Attacks Police Investigation Into Katie Hopkins' Ebola Tweets

Guess Who's Jumped In To Defend Katie Hopkins

The police investigation into Katie Hopkins' tweets has been branded "a terrible waste of time" by Nigel Farage.

For those who've stopped following Hopkins 463 controversies ago, her latest remarks were about the Scottish nurse diagnosed with Ebola, Pauline Cafferkey.

She added that the Scottish NHS "sucks". In a separate message, Hopkins also tweeted: "Glaswegian ebola patient moved to London's Royal Free Hospital. Not so independent when it matters most are we jocksville?"

Police Scotland confirmed it would investigate, while a petition calling for her arrest for "vile racist tweets" reached 23,000 signatures.

But the Ukip leader said it should be for "the public" to judge her, not the authorities.

Mr Farage told The Daily Mail: "There’s no need for police intervention, it’s a terrible waste of police time.

"If [Katie Hopkins] wants to behave like that then the public can judge her.

Detective Inspector Glyn Roberts said: "We have received a number of complaints regarding remarks made on Twitter. Inquiries are ongoing into the nature of these tweets and to establish any potential criminality.

"Police Scotland will thoroughly investigate any reports of offensive or criminal behaviour online and anyone found to be responsible will be robustly dealt with."

Police Scotland also tweeted: "Please be aware that we will continue to monitor comments on social media and any offensive comments will be investigated."

This is not the first contact police have had with Hopkins in recent weeks.
