David Cameron Asks Everyone To Share Favourite Winston Churchill Quotes... And Reveals His Own

David Cameron Wants You To Get Involved In This Hashtag...

David Cameron has urged people to share their favourite Winston Churchill quotations online, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of the "greatest ever prime minister" using the hashtag #ChurchillQuotes.

The Prime Minister quoted from Churchill's "we shall never surrender" speech as he paid tribute to the wartime leader in a video recorded at his birthplace in Blenheim Palace.

The palace is in Mr Cameron's Witney constituency, as is the churchyard in Bladon where Churchill is buried.

Mr Cameron said: "Churchill was our greatest ever prime minister and we owe him everything.

"In May 1940 that crucial decision to fight on against Hitler saved our country and arguably saved the world.

"I think this year we should also all remember the many great things that he said."

"My favourite quotation from Churchill is the one he made shortly after that momentous decision in May 1940: 'We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight them on the beaches, we shall fight them on the landing grounds, we shall fight them on the streets and in our fields, we shall fight them in the hills. We shall never surrender'."

Cameron called on people to post their favourite Churchill quote on social media "to share the great quotes of the great man in this, the 50th anniversary of his passing".
