Florence Welch Opens Up About Redefining Success Ahead Of ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful' Album Release

Florence Welch On Why She Stopped To Reconsider The Meaning Of Success

Florence Welch, of Florence And The Machine fame, has opened up about her decision to take a year out, ahead of the release of her upcoming album ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’.

The singer-songwriter achieved huge critical acclaim following her second release ‘Ceremonials’ in 2011, however, she then decided to take some time off.

Speaking to Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Florence has opened up about her decision, revealing that it changed the way she considers success.

“I think actually all that success [from touring and album sales] is fine, but then you stop and think, ‘I'm not successfully holding myself in everyday life.'

“All that stuff can cover up the things you're not dealing with, so it was really good to have that time off.

“There’s being a successful artist, and then there’s trying to have successful relationship, and a successful relationship with yourself. It’s a whole other thing and when you don't have that outlet [of performing] and you're forced to face those demons.”

Florence’s new release is due out on 1 June, and there’s been talk that she could heading to Glastonbury.

The ‘Cosmic Love’ creator made little attempt to silence the rumours while chatting to Zane, pausing then laughing when he asked whether she would be at the event this year.
