A hidden camera exposed the rampant anti-Semitism of the Parisian suburbs after it tracked a journalist strolling around the city wearing a yarmulke for 10 hours. Within the film, the reporter experiences a barrage of hate, including verbal abuse and spitting.
Published on Sunday, the video, which features Israeli media outlet NRG journalist Zvika Klein, details a raft of disturbing incidents, including the reporter being called a “homo”, a man walking alongside him in an intimidating way and two separate spitting incidents. In his report, Klein said he heard a child ask his guardian, “What is he doing here, Mommy? Does he not know he will be killed?"
Klein appeared fine while walking about the popular tourist destinations, however experienced threatening behaviour when touring the city's public housing neighbourhoods. Part of the team that tracked Klein, which used a GoPro camera hidden in a backpack, included a bodyguard.
The video has gained more than 1 million views since being posted to YouTube over the weekend, though critics said the video was edited to give a false impression.
The report comes just a month after four people were killed at a kosher supermarket in Paris, following an attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Reports suggest anti-Semitism is on the rise in Europe, with a shooting at a synagogue in Denmark the latest incident indicative of a rising tide of hate. Following the shooting in Copenhagen, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged European Jews to move to Israel.
