A girl believes she may have photographed a ghostly spectre said to have haunted Hampton Court Palace since 1829.
Holly Hampsheir, 12, was visiting the royal palace in Richmond when she snapped a picture of her cousin Brook McGee using her mobile phone.
A figure in period dress appears to be standing or hovering behind McGee, seemingly on the inside of the rope barriers around a fireplace.
Is this the Grey Lady of Hampton Court Palace?
McGee told The Sun: “I was totally freaked out. I didn’t see anything. People say the room goes cold when ghosts appear but we had no idea.
“We haven’t slept properly since.”
Hampton Court Palace is indeed said to be haunted by the ghost of Dame Sybil Penn, a servant to four Tudor monarchs.
Known as the Grey Lady of Hampton Court, Dame Sybil is said to haunt several parts of the palace including the state apartments and Clock Court, Historic Royal Palace writes.

The haunting is said to have begun when the church at nearby Hampton was rebuilt and her tomb was moved.
Following the relocation of her tomb, a noise similar to that of someone using a spinning wheel were heard through a wall in the palace.
“A search revealed a previously unknown chamber containing… an antique spinning wheel.”

The website adds Dame Sybil was the nurse of Prince Edward and nursed Elizabeth I through smallpox in 1562 before dying of the same disease herself shortly afterwards.
Hampsheir’s mother Angie told The Sun: “I was speechless. There was no one else in that room and she’s floating through the rope. Those ropes were alarmed.”
A photography expert contacted by the newspaper said they could not see any evidence the image had been tampered with.
