The HTC Vive Is A Gaming-Focused Virtual Reality Headset

HTC And Valve Have A Virtual Reality Headset

HTC has unveiled a gaming-focused virtual reality headset in partnership with video game developers Valve. The Vive allows you to play games, view films and interactive content through it.

Steering clear of the Apple Watch and Android Wear, HTC has instead decided to focus on virtual reality, choosing Oculus Rift and Samsung's Oculus-powered Gear VR as its main rivals.

The Vive has hand and head-tracking and because it's wireless you can walk around the room freely (though we'd probably clear the furniture first).

The Vive is a dedicated unit, so it contains its own screen, audio and power.

The games and video entertainment are being created in partnership with Valve, the games developer. A number of other partners including Google will also be working with HTC to create exclusive content. A dedicated wireless gaming controller comes courtesy of Valve/HTC which comes bundled with the headset.

The Vive will be handed out to developers later this year and HTC promises that it'll be available for consumers to buy before the end of 2015.
