Steven Gerrard Sending Off Makes Liverpool Captain Butt Of Many, Many Internet Jokes

At Least Gerrard's Sending Off Has Amused Everybody (Except Liverpool Fans)

Steven Gerrard is sorry. So sorry his face has done this...

The Liverpool captain was only on the pitch for a paltry 38 seconds against Manchester United on Sunday before he was sent off for stamping on Ander Herrera.

Obviously Manchester United fans were ecstatic.

Especially as they won 2-1.

Then it was recreated in Lego and immortalised forever.

Gerrard told Sky Sports: "I need to accept it; the decision was right.

"I've let down my team-mates and the fans. I take full responsibility. I don't know what caused it. Probably just a reaction to the initial tackle.

"I shouldn't say more about it really. I've just come out here to apologise to the dressing room and supporters."

Many called his apology "brave". Not as brave as this guy.

But many noticed something sorely lacking from his apology.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said: "Steven probably watched the first half and saw us not make a tackle and there was probably some frustration in there. He has apologised.

"He is a wonderful captain and came on hoping he could influence the game, but that was probably not the way he would have liked it.

"The players continued to fight to get something from the game and the man that Steven is, he has apologised, and we move on."

Gerrard will leave Liverpool for LA Galaxy at the end of the season.

And so we come to the only people who didn't find humour in the sending off. Liverpool fans...

But there's still hope...

And meanwhile over at the KC Stadium...
