Teenagers Caught Texting While Driving In Shocking Car Crash Video From The American Automobile Association

Terrifying Video Shows The Consequences Of Texting While Driving

Texting while driving continues to be a worrying trend among young drivers and the experienced alike, and this new video has captured several moments that might scare you into putting the phone down.

A study by the American Automobile Association found almost 60% of moderate-to-severe crashes involving teenagers were due to distraction.

With the help of a few dashcam videos, the AAA perfectly illustrates why it's a bad idea to let your phone steal your attention.

One young driver is seen with a phone to his ear when he is side-swiped at a railroad crossing, while another runs off the road while changing his music.

Perhaps most shockingly, some of the people in the video don't even look at the road at all until they're already off it.

The AAA Foundation For Traffic Safety analysed nearly 1,700 videos to find the harrowing results, with the majority of distraction-based accidents being caused by simply talking to someone else in the vehicle. Meanwhile, using a mobile phone was the second most prevalent cause.

According to UK road safety charity Brake, British teens are twice as likely to die in a crash than drivers aged 40-49, and 23% of 18-24 year-olds crash within two years of passing their test.

Research has found 80% of teenagers admit to using their phone while driving and 72% text behind the wheel.

Teenagers make up 25% of all UK road deaths, and they're twice as likely to crash if they have friends in the car.
