Andreja Pejic Is The First Transgender Model To Land A Make Up Campaign

Andreja Pejic has just made history in the beauty business. The 23-year-old is the first transgender model to land a major advertising campaign for a make up brand.

In an interview for US Vogue's May issue, Bosnian-born Pejic revealed she has been signed as the face of Make Up For Ever.

"There are just more categories now," Pejic told the magazine. "It's good. We're finally figuring out that gender and sexuality are more complicated... It is about showing that this is not just a gimmick."

Although Pejic is a familiar face on the catwalk, February's fashion month was significant for the model. A year after she underwent gender-confirmation surgery, Pejic made her first runway appearance as a woman at Giles' Autumn/Winter 2015 show in London.

"It makes me feel freer than ever," she told Style.com shortly after the surgery. "Now I can stand naked in front of a mirror and really enjoy my reflection. And those personal moments are important."

Pejic follows in the footsteps of transgender fashion model Lea T, who was announced as the face of hair brand Redken's Chromatics campaign in November 2014.

Let's hope this is another sign the style industry is finally breaking down body image barriers and embracing diversity for good.
