First Clip Of Amy Winehouse Film 'Amy - The Girl Behind The Name' Reveals Her Hesitancy At Writing Songs (VIDEO)

'Amy Winehouse Wasn't Sure About Writing Songs'

The first clip for the new documentary about the life of Amy Winehouse has been released, revealing that the talented performer was initially nervous about writing songs for her unique voice.

In the clip, one of her first collaborators, Nick Schmansky, recounts how the pair had been working together on demos when he asked her about writing her own songs. Amy apparently told him that she hadn't thought about writing songs, but that she had written a lot of poems, which he soon realised were her incredibly personal thoughts on paper.

The film, which will get its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, has not been warmly welcomed by everyone, with Amy's father Mitch voicing his displeasure about the way it had been edited. He said yesterday, "There’s just no balance… it’s portraying me and my relationship with Amy in not a very good light. They had a pretty clear agenda of how they wanted this film.”

"The film is directed by the same team behind the Award-winning biopic 'Senna'. Director Asif Kapadia and his fellow filmmakers made this statement yesterday in response to Mitch Winehouse.

"During the production process, we conducted in the region of 100 interviews with people that knew Amy Winehouse; friends, family, former-partners and members of the music industry that worked with her. The story that the film tells is a reflection of our findings from these interviews."

'Amy - The Girl Behind The Name' will be on release in the UK from 3 July. Watch the trailer below...
