Nigella confirmed news of the gig in three languages after being questioned by a fan on Twitter about the rumours.

"Yes, it's true. Oui, c'est vrai. Ja, das ist wahr,” she wrote.

She takes over the role from Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills, and follows in the footsteps of Lorraine Kelly, Fearne Cotton and Duncan James from Blue.

This year, the UK are being represented in the competition by polarising duo Electro Velvet with their song ‘Still In Love With You’, which has received very mixed reviews from critics.

It was recently announced that they will wear specially-designed LED costumes as they take to the stage in Vienna, Austria.

The Eurovision Song Contest airs on Saturday at 8pm on BBC One and BBC Radio 2.
