On Memorial Day, Caleb Earwood, 21, and Maggie Earwood, 22 tied the knot in North Carolina.

Before the ceremony, the pair were photographed praying together while holding hands.

As is tradition, the couple didn't want to see one another before they wed, which is why they were pictured facing away from each other with a wall between them.

Earwood, who is a US Marine Corps Corporal, told Today.com: "We were about to take our first steps in life together, and we didn't want to take a step without it being in God's will."

He added: "I prayed to God for my beautiful and intelligent wife that he blessed me with and the amazing family I was marrying into."

Meanwhile his wife, Maggie, revealed: "When I first grabbed his hand, he was shaking really bad, so I knew he was really nervous. It relieved me to know the person I was getting ready to marry felt the same way about God."

Photographer Dwayne Shmidt, who captured the remarkable photo, said on his site that the "touching exchange couldn’t have been more perfect".

"I was lucky to witness such a moving moment let alone capture it," he added.

"I have been fortunate enough to photograph several weddings, but this is a moment I will remember forever."
