Father Of Tunisian Beach Gunman Speaks Out About Son's Killing Spree

'I Died Along With The Victims': Father Of Tunisian Gunman Tells Of Shame

The father of the 23-year-old man who killed 38 people in the Tunisia tourist attack has spoken of his devastation and shame.

Hakim Rezgui spoke about his son to ITV News and said: "I am so shocked... I feel like I have died along with the victims - I am so ashamed."

The gunman terrorised holiday-makers during a killing spree on the beach at the RIY imperial Marhaba and the RIU Bellevue resorts on Friday.

The attack ended when he was shot dead by police. A bomb was found on his body.

In his interview with ITV News, Rezgui continued: "I have no idea who influenced him or put these ideas into his head

"I feel the loss of the family so strongly - I feel like I have died along with the victims, I am so ashamed."

The shooter has been named as Abu Yahya al-Qayrawani, which the Daily Mail suggests could be the jihadi name for Seifeddine Yacoubi, the gunman who was shot dead by security forces.

Tunisia officials have said that the "majority" of victims are thought to be British.

Foreign Minister Tobias Ellwood described the attack to Sky News as the "Most significant attack on the British people" since the July 7 attacks in 2005, when 52 people were killed by four suicide bombers.

The Foreign Office has since updated its travel advice to warn that further terrorist attacks in Tunisia are possible and urged people to be vigilant.
