The Emmy Awards nominations were announced this afternoon in Los Angeles, and first glance at the list reveals an impressive number of British names in their with the cream of America's small-screen listers.
Hugh Bonneville, Emma Thompson, David Oyelowo, Mark Rylance and Ricky Gervais are all among those given a nod across the categories. While 'Downton Abbey''s fervour may have abated in the UK, it seems it can still find approval overseas, with yet another nod in the Best Drama Series shortlist, as well as nominations for Hugh Bonneville and Jim Carter and Joanne Froggatt in the acting categories.
It's a particularly strong category, however, with the period drama competing against the likes of HBO behemoth 'Game of Thrones', Netflix favourite 'Orange is the New Black' and curtain-closer 'Mad Men', which came to a moving finale earlier this year after seven seasons.
'Game of Thrones' is the call-out leader so far, with a whopping 24 nominations, including for our very own Dame Diana Rigg in the Guest Actress, Drama category. And 'Mad Men' will surely be receiving a lot of sign-off love, with fond farewells and nods for its two leads, Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss. And Jon Hamm has got another tip, as Guest Actor for his role in Netflix comedy 'The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt'.
Ricky Gervais has been given the nod for his role of residential home worker, Derek, in the comedy-drama of the same name. He's up against fellow Brits David Oyelowo for 'Nightingale' and Mark Rylance for his stunning portrayal of Thomas Cromwell in the BBC's blockbuster 'Wolf Hall'.
Mark's co-star Damian Lewis has also been nominated for his role of Henry VIII in the same saga - he faces equally robust competition, most clearly in the form of Bill Murray in 'Olive Kitteridge'.
Emma Thompson has been recognised for her role in 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' - she's up against stiff competition with the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal for 'The Honourable Woman' and Frances McDormand for 'Olive Ketteridge'.
