Tour De France Leader Chris Froome Receives Aggressive 'Up Yours' Gesture From French Spectator

Tour de France Leader Chris Froome Ambushed With 'Up Yours' Gesture From Elderly French Spectator

Chris Froome received the most gallic of insults on Friday as he climbed during stage 19 of the Tour de France.

The yellow jersey-clad cyclist was filmed taking a corner during the ascent of the Col de la Croix de Fer [Pass of the Iron Cross] when an elderly spectator performed a defiant bras d’honneur just inches from his face.

Undeterred, the 30-year-old Briton and winner of the 2013 competition carried on regardless of the gesture, which is common in Europe and has the same meaning as giving someone the middle finger.

It marks the end of a tough week for Froome, who also had a cup of urine flung at him during stage 14.
