Guy Ritchie Backs David Beckham As An Actor

Beckham Praised For Acting Skills By Hollywood Director

Former footballer David Beckham has a promising career as an actor, Guy Ritchie has said.

The ex-England star makes a cameo as the projectionist in Ritchie's new film, The Man From UNCLE, which had its UK debut as the Film4 People's Premiere of the Somerset House outdoor screenings.

Beckham, 40, also has a role in Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur, which Ritchie directs, despite the sportsman previously saying he is "too stiff" for the big screen.

The Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels film-maker said: "We've put him in Arthur, which we've just finished, and he was fabulous in that. He's got a bigger role in that.

"We'll go steadily with David and see where that goes. He does enjoy it (acting)."

The 46-year-old director and his model wife Jacqui - wearing a white Alice Temperley gown - made their first red carpet appearance as Mr and Mrs Ritchie since they married in a three-day wedding extravaganza at their Wiltshire home on July 30.

The couple showed they were still enjoying the honeymoon phase as they posed for photos on two cream Vespas.

Ritchie, who said he has "just about recovered", joked about bringing his directing discipline to the nuptials, saying: "It's much easier for me to get my head around things if I see them as films."

The Man From UNCLE, based on the original 60s show, stars Superman actor Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer in the spy roles originally played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.

"You don't think about them doing it, just you, and you work closely with your director and co-stars and build a character," Cavill said.

"It's not necessarily about putting your own stamp on it, it's about doing a job and it's a new beginning so I haven't got enough to compare it to."

The 32-year-old, best known for playing Superman in Man Of Steel, admitted he has not watched the TV show, saying: "I didn't see the original series. I still haven't because I asked Guy and he said no."

Hugh Grant and Alicia Vikander also star in The Man From UNCLE, which opens in UK cinemas on August 14.
