Cecil The Lion's Cub Killed By Another Male Trying To Mate With Its Mother

Now One Of Cecil The Lion's Cubs Has Been Killed

One of Cecil the Lion’s cubs has been apparently been killed by a rival male.

The intruder is thought to have tried to mate with the cub’s mother when he killed it.

According to the Daily Mail, following Cecil’s death it had appeared that his cubs were being cared for by his brother, Jericho.

But unfortunately this did not last and they were abandoned.

Fears have now been raised that the remaining cubs may also be killed by the adult lion in an attempt to assert dominance.

The killing of Cecil, a much-loved Zimbabwean lion, caused uproar around the world.

The big cat, one of the most famous animals in Africa, was killed by American dentist Walter Palmer, who later defended his actions.

Cecil was decapitated, skinned and his body was found about half a mile outside his national park, after being lured out at night with bait. Animals are only allowed to be killed within the park during the day - and with a permit.

In his defence, Palmer said he "relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt" and "had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favourite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt."

The killing caused outrage worldwide, and high-profile such as Ricky Gervais, Piers Morgan and Jimmy Kimmel expressed their anger at the hunter.
