On Monday it was revealed that close to half of the nation's nightclubs have closed since 2005 - and from the outpouring of reaction on social media, people aren't at all surprised.
For revelers, an evening at the the local nightspot has been like witnessing terminal decline.
Grubby interiors, aggressive door staff, ever-rising drink prices and DJ sets fit for "Now That's What I Call Music", the average high street nightclub has been coasting for far too long.
