David Oyelowo Lands James Bond Audiobook Role, But Will He Star In A Film Version Next?

David Oyelowo To Play James Bond - Only We Won't Get To See Him...

David Oyelowo has been named as the new James Bond, only there’s one small issue - we won’t actually get to see him play the character.

The ‘Selma’ actor will be playing 007 in a new audiobook, ‘Trigger Mortis’, and while this is brilliant news, fans of the franchise are calling for bosses to go one step further, and name David as Daniel Craig’s successor.

David is the first black actor to play Bond, and he’s shared his excitement ahead of the book’s release, telling The Guardian: “I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond.’

“Even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech.

“I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special.”

The news has been well-received on Twitter, and judging from these comments, fans are hoping we’ll soon get to see David suited-and-booted, starring as the Mi6 agent in a blockbuster movie:

The announcement had made David the favourite to be named as the next Bond, as it’s already been confirmed that Daniel Craig will step aside after ‘Spectre’.

Idris Elba was previously rumoured to be in line for the job, thanks to leaked Sony emails that revealed execs were considering him.

The news was met with outcries of joy from many cinema fans, however some people - who may or may not have been born in the Stone Ages - didn’t take too kindly to the idea.

So will we ever see David playing Bond? Fingers crossed…
