Banksy 'To Launch Sinister Dismaland In Weston-Super-Mare'

Banksy 'Secretly Building Dismaland At Weston-Super-Mare'

Secretive street artist Banksy is rumoured to be preparing a pop-up exhibition under the cover of a fake film set in Weston-super-Mare.

'Dismaland' – believed to be a dark take on Disneyland – will allegedly be opening in the seaside resort later this week.

Based at disused swimming centre Tropicana, a derelict pink castle and a metal sculpture of a horse are visible at the site.

The area was reportedly closed off because Hollywood film producers Atlas Entertainment were filming a crime thriller called Grey Fox there.

Signs reading 'Crew Notice Grey Fox Productions' were put up to ward off curious passersbys.

Information about the blockbuster states that it will be directed by Declan Whitebloom and is due to be released in September next year.

But no cameramen or runners have been spotted on the site in recent days.

The official line is that the site has been closed for a film

Rumours started flying after Holly Cushing, who is believed to be Banksy's manager, was allegedly spotted at the site earlier this month.

A woman thought to be Ms Cushing - who is named as an executive producer on Exit Through the Gift Shop, a film about Banksy - was seen holding a coffee and chatting to security as she made her way into the building.

Rumour has it the exhibition will open this week

Financial records show she also set up a limited company called Dismaland Ltd with Simon Durban, who is thought to be Banksy's accountant, on 1 May.

Other sculptures on the site appear to include a petrol tanker bent into an 'S' shape and an oversized toy windmill.

Further stirring the rumour mill is the news that the Tropicana has recently seen its Wikipedia page updated. Under the title redevelopment plans, the page states:

"In June 2015 rumours began to emerge of the Tropicana site being used to stage an art event over the summer 2015. Some reports were leaked of the site being allocated for filming of Grey Fox -a crime thriller- between August and October 2015. In July 2015, it emerged that acclaimed British grafitti artist Banksy (a lonely farmer who swapped lambs from cans) would be curating the site for an art happening entitled "somewhere over the railings". Opening date for the exhibition is 30th August 2015."

The exhibition is believed to be opening to the public on Friday.

A spokesman for North Somerset Council refused to answer queries about the matter.
