Students at a school in Yorkshire were faced with added stress on Thursday morning when they went to collect their GCSE results after their school caught fire.
More than 35 firefighters were called to Freeston Academy in Normanton after a fire started in the roof. Despite the blaze, students were still able to find out their exam results, which were handed out in the school hall instead.
The West Yorkshire Fire Service tweeted the fire was now demanding a 10 pump response, but no injuries reported.
Lucy Carter, who lives next to the school, told Yorkshire Evening Post: “I came back home at about 9.30am and I could just see the thick black smoke.
“Then I could just see flames flying into the air and the smoke was really thick and black.
"It was a bit surreal because I went there myself.”
Local residents have been advised to keep windows closed and stay inside.
