Passenger Captures Terrifying Moment A Plane Is Hit By Lightning On The Runway

This is the moment that a Delta Air Lines plane was struck by a powerful lightning bolt whilst on a runway in Atlanta.

The feat of nature took place when Delta Air Lines flight 67 was preparing to depart despite stormy conditions from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Las Vegas.

The video was uploaded to YouTube by user Jack Perkins, a passenger from another plane who happened to witness the event.

The moment the strike took place

The footage which shows a strong bolt of lightning flashing through the sky and striking the plane has so far been viewed over 1.3 million times.

According to Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant, at least 111 passengers and six crew members were on board the plane when the lightning struck. No one was injured in the incident.

A description of the clip on the video-sharing network stated: “While filming the line of planes all stacked up during a ground hold in Atlanta on 8/18/15 I happened to capture this direct lightning strike on a 737.”

It's not uncommon for airplanes to be struck by lightning and in April, two were caught on camera as they were struck near Seattle Airport.
