The news that Sam Smith has finally confirmed - that he WILL be providing the theme song for the new James Bond film - makes him the first British male solo artist to lend his pipes to the franchise since 1965, when Tom Jones gave us 'Thunderball'.

Sam confirmed this morning that his song 'Writing's on the Wall' will be the theme for Daniel Craig's fourth outing as 007 in 'Spectre', saying he "so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations".

The Bond bosses are bigging Sam's tune up ahead of release on 25 September, with Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli already saying Sam's song, co-written with Grammy winner Jimmy Napes will "surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time".

Them's big words, especially when you consider the roll-call of extraordinary artists who've come before, from the unique sounds of Dame Shirley Bassey on 'Goldfinger', through Wings' 'Live and Let Die' all the way up to Adele's Oscar-winning 'Skyfall'.
