The winner for this year's British Wildlife Photography Awards has been announced.
Showcasing the very best wildlife entries from around the UK the overall winning picture has been awarded to Barrie Williams from Edinburgh who took a photo of Northern Gannets taken at Noss on the Shetland Isles against the dark backdrop of the sea.

Speaking about his image Barrie said " Visiting Noss, I was blown away by the sheer volume of gannets surrounding me. I studied the scene for a while, soaking in the seabird orchestra and thinking about how to convey this. Looking down, it appeared to me that the gannets far below looked like stars against the dark backdrop of the sea. Add to this the nests scattered across the cliffs and I knew I had found my image."
Zoologist Mark Carwardine who will be presenting the award and has said: The annual publication of the British Wildlife Photography Awards has become one of the most anticipated events in the wildlife photography calendar. Look at this year’s fabulous collection and you will see that wildlife photographers are working harder than ever before, striving to capture a wider range of subjects, locations and styles, tackling increasingly difficult species and behaviours, and shooting familiar ones in unfamiliar and more imaginative ways. The bar in wildlife photography has already been raised to unimaginably high levels of sophistication, innovation and artistic vision, yet the standard somehow continues to get better and better.

British Wildlife Photography Awards 2015
