‘Doctor Who’ has finally received some good news about its ratings, following a disappointing start to the ninth series.

New official viewing figures have revealed that an additional two million people watched the opening episode, after it racked up just 4.58 million in the overnight ratings, when it originally aired on 19 September.

The episode, entitled 'The Magician's Apprentice', now has a consolidated seven-day rating of 6.54 million viewers, which will be a much more pleasing figure to BBC bosses.
The new figure - an increase of 1.96 million - takes into account the people of recorded the show, watched on demand or on the BBC iPlayer.
The show will be hoping for a similar boost for the second episode of the series, which attracted just 3.7 million viewers on Saturday (26 September).
'The Witch's Familiar' pulled in the show’s lowest overnight figure since the sci-fi drama returned in 2005.

There’s still plenty of drama ahead for ‘Doctor Who’ fans however, and the coming episodes will feature guest appearances from ‘Game Of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams and Ingrid Oliver.
This series will also be Jenna Coleman’s last, following confirmation that she’s set to leave, ahead of taking the lead role in a new ITV drama.
The actress will play Queen Victoria, in a new, big budget show, that will chart the young monarch’s rise to the throne, and courtship of Prince Albert.
‘Doctor Who’ continues on Saturday (3 October) at 8.25pm on BBC One.
