Google has unveiled the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones at a special event held in California. The company also unveiled a new version of its hugely-successful Chromecast streaming stick.
Both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have been hotly tipped as the rivals to take on both Apple's iPhone 6s and Samsung, both of whom have unveiled new flagship smartphones in the last six months.
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have been designed and built by LG and Huawei respectively and both will be among the first smartphones to come running Google's all-new operating system Android Marshmallow.

The company has also made significant performance and security updates to make sure that Marshamallow is as safe and as smooth-running on as many devices as possible.
The home screen can now be indexed alphabetically. According to Google, the phone will learn the types of apps you launch therefore, making it easier to access your favourite apps.

The Google Nexus 5X is built by LG and follows in the footsteps of the critically-acclaimed Nexus 5. Quite a lot has changed since Google's first flagship phone took us all by surprise though so the Nexus 5X has been given quite the upgrade.
There's a 5.2-inch Full-HD display on the front which is now protected by ultra-hard Gorilla Glass 3. Powering the Nexus 5X is a massive 64-bit 2GHz hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor sporting 2GB of RAM.
Sporting the same soft-touch plastic casing as the old Nexus 5, LG has remained faithful to the phone's budget origins while making sure that it still maintains a level of build quality that can keep up with even the best Android smartphones out there.
In keeping with current trends the Nexus 5X does indeed sport a fingerprint sensor on the back, subtly built into the design of the phone's rear case.
Finally Google's new flagship will come with the new USB-C standard that has slowly started to appear on new Android devices and in particular the new MacBook.
Nexus 5X Camera
On the back there's a 13MP camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. If the Nexus 5 had one weakness it was the camera (oh and the battery life). Well LG has made sure that it won't be repeating the same mistakes again.
The 5X features some of the same photography tech that can be found in LG's SLR-competing LG G4 including a laser autofocus and xenon flash.

Google Nexus 6P

Google's Nexus 6P has arrived as the larger of the two, hoping to rival the iPhone 6s Plus, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and, bizarrely, Huawei's own range of new phones.
First up is the design which as you can see is unlike anything Google has unveiled before. This is all about a simple premium design so the phone is clad in a unibody aluminium shell with a large black camera bulge at the top.
On the front of the phone you'll find the next surprise, and that is the screen. Instead of opting for the same large 6-inch display found in the Motorola Nexus 6, Huawei has gone for a more hand-friendly 5.7-inch Full-HD screen.
This is certainly more in keeping with the smartphones that are hoping to persuade those of us that still thing a phone should be usable with one hand. Of course while you definitely won't be able to use the Nexus 6P one-handed it's certainly a welcome relief to see that Huawei hasn't gone for sheer numbers.
The Nexus 6P isn't lacking in power behind that screen either, there's a state-of-the-art Snapdragon 810 processor along with 3GB of RAM.
While both the Nexus 5X and 6P are lacking in microSD storage, the 6P has got you covered with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB variants all available.
Nexus 6P Camera
This is where the Nexus 6P should really shine. On the back is premium-looking black camera bulge which is holding a massive 12.3MP sensor that will be able to capture video in 4K.
The front camera will hold a 8MP sensor and will allow you to film in high-definition.
Fingerprint sensor
Both phones will have Nexus Imprint -- which Google says will make phones more secure. Once trained, the sensor will be able to recognise a fingerprint in less than 600 milliseconds.
To unlock phones, all you will have to do is tap the back of your phone.
