Sandra Bullock has opened up about the worries she has for her African-American son as he grows up in today's society.
The actress, who adopted Louis, now five, from New Orleans in 2010, said she wanted to give her son a life-long safety net.
When asked about her son in the context of the "peril that African-American men face in this country", Bullock told Glamour: "I want my son to be safe.
"I want my son to be judged for the man he is. We are at a point now where if we don't do something, we will have destroyed what so many amazing people have done."
Bullock continued: "It's turning into a mad, mad world out there.
"But sometimes it needs to get really loud for people to say, 'I can't unsee this.' If I could ride in a bubble with him for the rest of his life, I would. But I can't."
Gushing over her son, she added: "I have the greatest gift in little Louis. A child forces you to get your sh** together in the best way."
Bullock began the process of adopting her son in 2006 while married to Jesse James.
After her divorce, she continued the adoption process and welcomed her son in January 2010.
Recent rumours suggested Bullock had adopted a daughter, however nothing has been confirmed.
