Student Praised For Comforting Deaf Man With Cerebral Palsy On Bus

A student has been hailed an internet hero after he was spotted comforting a disabled stranger on a busy bus.

Godfrey Cuotto was photographed holding the hand of a man he later learned was named Robert.

Robert, who has cerebral palsy and is deaf, held out his hand at first, prompting Cuotto to shake it.

Cuotto, 21, told the Huffington Post Canada: “He kept holding my hand. I thought I was getting pranked at first, but he just needed comfort.”

Robert then proceeded to kiss Cuotto’s hands and embrace him during the 30 minute bus ride.

“I just allowed it, like what am I going to do? Sometimes you just have to be selfless and put someone else’s needs above yours.”

The image of Cuotto, a student in Hamilton, Ontario, was shared online more than 10,000 times and has been liked close to 50,000 times.

It was captioned: “… Would like to say thank you to the guy who was seating [sic] beside a special needs gentleman… He allowed him to hold his hand and find comfort well in a packed bus… It makes my day when I see stuff like that.”

Speaking to Toronto radio station Kiss 92.5, Cuotto credited his selflessness to his mother.

“I was raised by a queen,” he said.

Cuotto has been contacted and privately thanked via Facebook by Robert’s family.
