He and his professional partner, Kristina Rihanoff, landed themselves in the bottom two in Sunday night’s show, opposite Kirsty Gallacher and Brendan Cole.

Each pair performed their latest routines again, with the judges eventually unanimously voting to save Kirsty and Brendan.

Craig Revel Horwood said: “One couple did really, really well in the dance off and one couple I am afraid made a lot of mistakes. I am going for the couple that was the most powerful, and that was Kristy and Brendan.”

Speaking about his time on the show, Daniel said: “whatever I have given, I have received tenfold - absolutely and honestly. I want to say thank you to all the people who voted.”

Kristina was also full of praise for her dancing partner, telling him: “You were such a joy to work with; you are the most wonderful guy, always there with a smile, always ready to learn. It was an absolutely wonderful experience for me, so thank you so much.”

Earlier this week, Kristina was forced to defend her working relationship with Daniel, denying reports that she’d branded him an “old man” with “no chance of winning” behind the scenes.

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ continues next Saturday night, at 6.35pm on BBC One.
