'Chewbacca' Arrested In Ukraine After Breaking Election Rules While Campaigning For 'Darth Vader'

'Chewbacca' Makes Wookiee Error After Arrest In Ukraine

A man dressed as Chewbacca was arrested in Ukraine on Sunday after he broke legislation that forbids campaigning on Election Day. The Wookiee was allegedly campaigning for Darth Vader. After being detained by local authorities, Chewie was thrown over a police car and handcuffed. He later appeared in court looking like he’d made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.

The arrest was made in Odessa, according to RT, with Chewbacca given a small fine for the disturbance. However, the Wookiee told local reporters he could not pay "as his funds are an intergalactic bank that has no branches on this planet."

Darth Vader, for whom Chewie was campaigning, is the legal name of a man running for mayor in Odessa. The Sith Lord represents Ukraine’s Internet Party. The organisation has set out it policy plank which boasts an overt ‘Star Wars” theme.

Last week, a statue of Lenin was transformed by a Ukrainian artists, who turned the ernest revolutionary into Luke's father.
