Hunger Games Star Liam Hemsworth On Veganism, Boxing And His Love Of Dirty Gyms

Hunger Games' Liam Hemsworth On How He Stays In Shape

Liam Hemsworth has revealed how he hits up "rank, gritty gyms" to stay in shape. And the dirtier they are, the better.

In an exclusive interview with Men's Health, Hemsworth said that when he was shooting the Hunger Games in Atlanta, he would avoid pristine gyms in favour of grubby joints.

"Me and the stunt guys would work out at this gym that we called ‘the Stinky Gym’ because it was one of the foulest-smelling places you’ve ever been to," he explains.

"It made you just want to get in there, get the job done, and get out."

Hemsworth insists that, for him, the secret to keeping in shape doesn't lie in weightlifting.

Instead he spends as much time outdoors as possible and enjoys cycling, football and basketball.

He also goes on regular two-hour hikes (doing as many push-ups as he can along the way) and he's particularly passionate about boxing.

"One of my brother’s friends used to take me to a boxing gym after school," he said. "We’d catch a couple of trains to this particular gym.

"I’ve always loved the workout. It keeps you mentally strong as well as physically."

The 25-year-old has also revealed his newfound love for veganism.

"I was always the weird kid who enjoyed eating Brussels sprouts. Now it’s beans, legumes, lentils, nuts and seeds," he said, before adding that since cutting out meat he feels far more energetic.

And despite being a recent convert to plant-based protein shakes (healthy much?) he admits he's not all about green living, and loves a pizza and Xbox night as much as anyone.

The full interview appears in the December 2015 issue of Men's Health, on sale now. Also available as a digital edition.
