Fans needn’t worry though, as the cafe owner will be returning to the cobbles, as actor David Nielson has just requested a sabbatical from the ITV soap.

David’s character will be written out of the show for three months while he takes part in a stage show.

“I think they realised it was something I needed to do. It recharges the batteries.”

David is just the latest star to request a break from the soap, as earlier this month, it was revealed that Sophie Webster actress Brooke Vincent will be leaving temporarily to do a play, while Les Dennis (Michael Rogers) has also been granted permission to do the same.

Alison King, who plays Carla Connor, is also due to take a year’s break from the soap at some point in 2016, while Jason Grimshaw actor Ryan Thomas announced he was quitting for good after 15 years on the cobbles, last month.

‘Corrie’ has been suffering from falling viewing figures in recent months, and is set for a revamp when new executive producer Kate Oates takes over next year.

Existing boss Stuart Blackburn announced he was leaving his role, ahead of the soap’s recent live episode, amid criticism he was behind the ratings drop.
