'X Factor' 2015: Odds On Dermot O'Leary Returning Slashed Following Olly Murs' Live Results Show Blunder

Dermot's Chances Of Returning To 'X Factor' Just Got Even Higher

Dermot O’Leary could be about to stage a triumphant return to ‘The X Factor’ - or at least that’s what the bookies are saying.

The odds of the ITV talent show’s former host returning have been dramatically slashed, following Olly Murs’ live blunder on Sunday (16 November) night’s results show.

Dermot O'Leary

The singer, who replaced Dermot on the ITV talent show alongside Caroline Flack earlier this year, made an unfortunate error when he announced Monica Michael would be leaving the competition, instead of taking the judges’ vote to Deadlock.

Bookmakers William Hill are now offering odds of 33/1 that Olly leaves before the end of the series.

Dermot, who stood in for an ill Terry Wogan on last week’s Children In Need appeal, is now slated at just 8/1 to return for the next year’s series.

“It was an unfortunate slip from Olly, but we think he will be given the benefit of the doubt until the end of the series,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Olly made the blunder on Sunday's results show

Dermot has quick to rush to Olly's defense in the aftermath of his blunder, tweeting that such things happen to all TV presenters.

But according some, Simon Cowell may have already offered Dermot his job back - at least that’s what some of the jokes circulating on Twitter are saying:

Dermot left ‘The X Factor’ after eight series earlier this year, and while it was believed to have been his choice to leave, he reportedly made the decision after hearing Simon was looking to replace him anyway.

It has since been reported that ITV bosses are hoping to secure him as the new host of ‘The Voice’, following the show’s move to the broadcaster from the BBC in 2017.

‘The X Factor’ continues on Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
