Daniel Radcliffe has opened up about how he turned to drink to help him cope with life after playing ‘Harry Potter’.

The 26-year-old, who played the boy wizard from the age of 11, says he struggled to lead a normal life after shooting to global fame in the film franchise.
In a bid to feel ‘normal’, the actor revealed he went out on boozy nights out with fans in a bid to cope.

Speaking on Marc Maron's WTF podcast Daniel said: "There was definitely a time when I was coming out of Potter into the real world, and suddenly I was in a world when I was not in that consistency anymore.
"Then I was living alone, and I think I was really freaked out."
He added: ''I drank a lot but that was more to do with actually going out in public and a battle in me going, 'I can have a totally normal life, man. This is fine'. That is the thing - most people probably can but I definitely can't.''
Daniel admitted he felt as though he had to live up to the hellraiser reputations of British actors like Oliver Reed and Peter O'Toole.
''I honestly feel like a lot of us feel we have to live up to that in some way," he said.
''For me, I always had a structured life and 90 per cent of the time having enjoyed it, [but] there is that crazy part of you every so often that wants to rebel and have some chaos.''
The star says he has now put his partying days behind him as he got “bored of waking up feeling like that".
He added that it was also easier to give up drinking whilst living in America compared to England.
"I find it so much easier not to drink in America than in England by a long way,” he said.
"And even at work, people in America go, 'Hey, do you want to go out for a coffee?' 'What? Yeah, I suppose I do'. That's what I can do now. It's very different."
