Enfield Caffè Nero Evacuated And 'Suspicious Package' Blown Up By Police

Enfield Locals React To Caffe Nero Bomb Threat With 'Laughter And Jokes'

A Caffè Nero was evacuated this morning after a suspicious package was found there, the second bomb scare in London in 24 hours.

A suspicious package, believed to be a suitcase, was blown up in a controlled explosion in the cafe in Hatton Walk, Enfield, and the high street was reportedly cordoned off while police investigated.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed a "commercial premises" was evacuated and a controlled explosion carried out. The package was later found to be safe.

A Caffè Nero spokeswoman told HuffPost UK: “Caffè Nero Enfield was evacuated this morning as a precautionary measure.

"The safety of our teams and customers are our priority and the team in Enfield acted swiftly in ensuring the correct measures were taken.”

But there was reason to believe locals were not taking it seriously.

The suspicious package was a suitcase and the cafe re-opened at around 11am , local paper the Enfield Independent reported.

Market manager Terrence Marritt told the paper: “Most of the traders here were laughing and joking about it.

"They all knew it was probably nothing. It is a little strange when you’re not expecting something like this, but really we are not too affected by it."
