Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland has died, at the age of 48, his manager Tom Vitorino has confirmed.
A statement on Instagram explains that Scott was found dead on his tour bus, after dying in his sleep.
The caption alongside a picture of Scott reads: “Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts.
“At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”
The musician’s band Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts, were due to play at a gig in Minnesota on Thursday evening.
He formed Stone Temple Pilots with Robert and Dean DeLeo in the 1990s, however despite being praised by critics and selling thousands of records, the band members argued frequently, and after a series of breaks, Scott left in 2002.
He then formed Velvet Revolver, with the former members of Guns ‘N’ Roses.
Velvet Revolver altered their touring and schedules to accommodate Scott, and his stays in rehab to treat drug problems, however they parted ways in 2008.
He is survived by two children, and his wife Jamie Wachtel.
