In the wake of the iPhone 7 headphone jack rumours, a developer has spotted another potential feature that could be a game-changer for mobile phones
In a tweet, @kyoufujibaya posted an image evidencing a claim that Apple could be testing Li-Fi technology, said to be 100 times faster than Wi-Fi.
Referring to the code underlying the iOS 9.1 software, his image shows the words 'Li-Fi capability.'

If this is true, the phone would be using visible light to transmit data instead of Wi-Fi's radio waves.
Experts have said this will increase bandwidth (the rate at which data is transmitted to your device) by 100 times, equating it to downloading 18 movies (at 1.5GB each) per second.
According to 9to5 Mac, the move towards Li-Fi "doesn’t seem surprising in the least," given the rumours around the wireless technology that could be replacing the longstanding 3.5mm headphone jack.
The light-based technology is still in testing stages but according to Professor Harald Haas, who coined the term Li-Fi, it would mean that your average LED light bulb could become points of data transmission.
