9 ‘CD:UK' Performances That Will Have You Longing For The Saturday Morning Show's Return

This Is Why We Need 'CD:UK' Back On Our Screens

Saturday morning telly might be all about food, food and more food these days, but there was a time when the start of the televisual weekend was a whole lot more fun than the sight of James Martin and a load of blokey chefs seeing who can make an omelette in the fastest time.

Once ‘SM:TV Live’ was out of the way (brilliant in its own right, but usually missed by anyone who’d been out the night before), ‘CD:UK’ then served up an hour of non-stop cheesy pop to accompany our bacon sarnies and sore heads.

If you had a single out, then a spot on the Ant & Dec/Cat Deeley-fronted ‘CD:UK’ was a must, which meant even huge international stars like Britney, Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake swung by the studios.

But as impressive as their presence might have been, our favourites were the Brit stars who, like us, had been out until god knows what time the night before, and now had to (a) perform and (b) not throw up.

One hour later, and our fuzzy heads had been jump-started back into something resembling normality and we were all set to hit the shops to buy that top Cheryl Tweedy was wearing or those cargo pants that All Saints were rocking.

Yep, we’re blaming them entirely.

So, prepare to get all misty-eyed as we remind ourselves of some of the (ahem) greatest ever ‘CD:UK’ performances - and if these don’t get you hankering after a reboot of the show, then, well, you'll always have James Martin on BBC One.
