Facebook Changes News Feed To Show 'Stories That Matter Most To You'

Facebook Is Changing What Stories You'll See In Your News Feed

Scrolling through your Facebook News Feed could feel a little different as the social media giant alters its algorithm.

The company has said that based on user surveys, the News Feed will aim to give you stories that you will most likely "want to see" and want to engage with.

In a blog post, Facebook stated:

"We are making an update to News Feed that combines these two signals.

"News Feed will begin to look at both the probability that you would want to see the story at the top of your feed and the probability that you will like, comment on, click or share a story.

"We will rank stories higher in feed which we think people might take action on, and which people might want to see near the top of their News Feed."

Those who are likely to feel the change the most will be publishers and Page owners, including those who are trying to promote small businesses on the platform.

In the blog, software engineers Cheng Zhang and Si Chen write:

"In general, Pages should avoid encouraging people to take an action (such as encouraging lots of clicks), because this will likely only cause temporary spikes in metrics that might then be rebalanced by feed’s ranking over time."
