A makeshift hospital has been destroyed by a suspected Russian airstrike in Syria, killing at least ten people and wounding dozens more on Monday.
Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), which supports the hospital in the Idlib province, in northern Syria, said the building was hit four times in two attacks within a few minutes of each other.
Another missile strike in the neighbouring Aleppo province struck a hospital in the town of Azaz. It is believed that at least five people were killed in the attack. And in a nearby village, an air raid hit a school, killing seven and wounding others, the Associated Press reports.
The 30-bed hospital, supported by MSF in the Idlib province, had 54 staff, two operating theatres, an outpatients department an emergency room, the charity said.
“This appears to be a deliberate attack on a health structure, and we condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms,” said Massimiliano Rebaudengo, MSF’s Head of Mission.
“The destruction of the hospital leaves the local population of around 40,000 people without access to medical services in an active zone of conflict,” Massimiliano said.
MSF reported that there were at least eight members of staff currently missing.
MSF has been supporting this hospital since September 2015 and covered all the needs of the hospital including provision of medical supplies and running costs.
