Monkey Walks Into Bar, Drinks Rum, Steals Knife, Attacks Patrons

A wayward capuchin has been detained by fire officials after drinking from glasses containing cachaça and running rampant with a kitchen knife at a bar.

The small monkey caused havoc in the watering hole in Paraiba, Brazil, after necking the dregs from glasses dotted around the premises. It then went on a drunken rampage after finding a kitchen knife.

According to reports, the inebriated capuchin was acting aggressively towards male patrons in the bar and "chasing" people before it started stabbing the roof of the establishment with the sharp object.

"It was a bar staff oversight that ended with the monkey drinking some rum and taking the knife," fire department Lt Col Saul Laurentino told aRede.

The monkey was apprehended by the local fire department and released into a nearby environmental reserve.

However, officials said the monkey began scaring local families and children so had to be caught again.

"We had to recapture him because he was causing problems and threatening children living near the reserve," Lt Col Laurentino said.

"We will forward it on Saturday to the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) in Sousa. There, they will evaluate whether the animal is able to return to the environment or if it will need to live in captivity."
