“I’ve lost count of the number of blokes who’ve come up to me over the years and said ‘thanks for making it OK for indie guys to get on the dance floor’.”

And it seems Bez has already made good progress in forging a relationship with show bosses.

Bez is well known for throwing some shapes

After the star’s admission was published, the official ‘Strictly’ Twitter account published a link to a story, adding “Twisting our arm or our melon? #man.”

He’s also got the backing of 2014 winner Caroline Flack, who was thrilled at the idea of Bez competing on the show.

“Yes yes yes,” she wrote in response to the show’s tweet.

Of course, Bez is no stranger to reality TV, having won the third series of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in 2005.

While the new series of ‘Strictly’ is still a long way off, other names who have been linked to the 2016 run include S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearritt, former ‘X Factor’ winner Joe McElderry and ‘This Morning’ hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns to BBC One in the autumn.
